Social Media Marketing Simplification – How To Map Out Your Strategy

25 01 2010

This is only going to be a quick one about Social Media Marketing today, but compelling never the less. Marketing in itself is daunting, we look at a few factors. We look at if the market exists, we try to find out where the people that populate this market are, and we push a product or website in their direction and hope that they will take notice.

A lot of people struggle with this, and rightfully so. The term “marketing” itself sounds like it should come with 4 years of college education and market research experience. This is definitely not the case, however the purpose of this post today is not about how to research your market and find prospective customers (that will come in the next few days), this is about simplifying social media marketing, and getting a 2 hours job done without even noticing it.

You Can Effectively Market Your Product Through Social Media

Social Media has a huge advantage. There are so many populated social media networks out there, each is populated in part by people who are in your market. This is great news of course, but distributing your message to those who are in those networks can be extremely time consuming and demanding.

Anyway, to cut to the chase, I have drawn out a map this morning that covers a basic way of distributing your message abroad. This is inspired by a few other methods that I have read and tried before, however this one is really on the money, not just for social media marketing itself, but for the area that involves tracking of clicks and researching what your market really responds well to. This is in the form of the tracking in the Bit.ly platform, and in Ping.fm

Enjoy, you are free to share and distribute this, I have also included it in a pdf format as well as an image, just please be sure to link back if you want to share it.

All the best,

Utilize Social Media and Web 2.0 elements for keyword discovery and trust

Incorporating Social Media by Ryan T Malone

Adding social media to your website can boost your site authority. It’s true, as much as we are all well accustomed to using social media, at times we can easily forget that what we are looking at is in fact social media, incorporating Web 2.0 elements into a website.

Let’s take blogging for example. Blogging is a platform that is specifically designed for those who want to deliver time sensitive information to those who desire it. Through user comments, questions can be asked of the writer, and questions can be answered by the writer as well. This encourages further interaction between visitors, which as my last post on creating a persona described, this acts as a method of developing a great online persona.

Is Blogging The Correct Platform?

Although, I do need to stress that in a lot of cases, blogging is not the appropriate format for a website. As much as a lot of people boast about how good certain platforms such as WordPress can be as a content management system for a theme based content site, blogs only ever receive love from the search engines when they regularly update themselves. This can be a bit of a tricky situation to deal with from time to time.

Undoubtedly, the juiciest part of the internet is that low bandwidth area that is focused on information, and information alone. Certain applications such as SBI! allow for social media elements to be placed on site, such as their Content 2.0 system which allows for users to add their own content. This can also be portrayed as guest blogging on a standard blog, or a guest feedback system on a content based theme site. The bottom line is that there is a strong advantage to adding some kind of social media to your website.

What Is The Advantage Of Using Social Media On My Website?

The advantage itself is not overly clear to some, but you will probably fall over backwards when you realize it, so here goes. When you create a website, you generally choose keywords that:

-Fit into your site concept

-Are winnable in the search engines

-Are buying phrases (if you are selling a product or service)

-Are keywords that your customer/visitor will be searching for

Of course, it is extremely hard to be 100% on top of things at all times, we can never know exactly what is going on in the head of our potential visitors, we can only go on what we assume through research, and development. We can never really know what the visitor wants unless we ask them that very question. Through adding a social media element that allows the user to actively interact and submit their own content, whether it be commenting, adding feedback, or guest blogging, we would not only be building trust with those users, we would also be leaving ourselves open for discovering new keywords that we can rank well for. Pretty amazing thought? I thought you would like that!

How Can I Use Web 2.0 Elements On My Website Or Blog?

Either way, there are plenty of ways that you can implement social media elements into a website. On one hand, you have blogging, and many platforms allow for contributors to be set up. For a website, as I said, you have SBI! which allows for the Content 2.0 plugin, and on the other hand, you have undeveloped systems as well which I am sure will play a huge part in this, such as Google Wave. This is very much a “watch this space” kind of thing, but in a nutshell, if there is any worthwhile kind of web 2.0 element that encourages user interaction and engagement, give it a bit of thought.

All the best,

Create A Persona Through Blogging And Social Media

Creating An Online Persona by Ryan T Malone

persona.mp3 (3321 KB)

From a purely SEO standpoint, you could say that having a persona is not 100% relevant to your off page SEO campaign, and is more relevant to marketing. I tend to disagree with this notion slightly. By disagreeing, I look back into the fundamentals of true and raw organic SEO, and remember how backlinks are earned with no form of off page SEO at all. You tell a friend about a website, they end up liking that website, and they share. At least, this is how it was for me in the late 90’s when I created my very first website.

When creating a website, something that I do consider each time is what persona would fit that site concept. Of course, this has to fit in with which ever market I am planning to break into, as each market has its own voice. This persona would obviously be reflected on site where the core of my information would be supplied for the public, but equally as important, through the very medium that I would use as part of my off page SEO campaign in order to spread links, interact with users, and actively encourage more visitors through this cyber word of mouth that we consistently refer to as “Social Media”.

Open Ended Vs Thought Provoking

Before turning a new leaf, I have worked in face to face sales, and one of the best sales tactics that I used on a regular basis was to keep the customer talking. Ask open ended questions. Questions like “What colour do you prefer?”, and “How long are you in town for?”, questions that will never result in a simple yes or no answer. One of the most powerful skills involved in creating a persona is the ability to step it up a notch and ask questions that not only result in answers, but result in a more ‘what if I could do that’ kind of thought. For example, “Where do you plan on installing that cabinet?", and "How do you think that this SEO method will change your web presence”.

This is part of my process of creating a persona. Although, being online lacks in large part the face to face interaction of sales, there is always going to be the excitement when someone who you could potentially look up to responds to your questions, and gives you the right answer. And an answer that makes you feel absolutely great as well!

How Can I Create A Persona?

There are many platforms that will allow you to create a great online persona. Personally, I believe that a blog, and social networking is always a good way to start. Create a blog through a service such as Posterous, WordPress, or TypePad, and also make sure that you have a Facebook and a Twitter. Generally I will tweet my new blog posts to Twitter, and post on Facebook as a status update as well. The blog being a provider of further information in a more relaxed atmosphere, leaving the social networking accounts for further interaction where I can ask those truly thought provoking and compelling questions.

Your persona is not something that should be copied, although this is where a lot of people do start out. What will draw people to your persona is your ability to be unique, and your ability to have your own voice that stands out above others. Through providing the best content, provoking thought with compelling questions, and giving people the right advice through your answers, this will always result in more traffic to your website, more followers through social media that can be further sold, and more trust and respect within your niche.

Discover How Article Marketing Can Increase Backlinks 10X

20 01 2010

So, I have been doing a lot of Article Marketing over the past few weeks. I regularly post on Ezine Articles, as well as a lot of others as well. You see, writing content for Article Directories is not exactly a hidden technique. It is a technique that is well known, just that a lot of webmasters choose not to go down that path because it seems like a whole lot of work. Too much for them to do on their small budget.

Here is something that should prick your ears at least. If you don’t think you can write articles, then how do you convey a persona to your friends when you talk to them in person or over the phone? Have you ever taught someone how to do something, or given someone advice? If the answer is yes, then you can write articles.

Tell Me About Article Marketing

Article Marketing is one of my strong points. I love everything about it, I love writing great articles that are keyword optimized, and I love seeing the response that I get from my articles. As a by-product of this, I love the traffic that my websites receive as a result of Article Marketing, and I love the backlinks that are earned, which ultimately will make my website more powerful and competitive.

So, here are a few tips for article marketing for you. Your Article Marketing should be one of the largest parts of your SEO Campaign, so make sure that you think it through, set a plan, then most importantly, put that plan in action with vigour.

The Importance of Titles

Titles are important. Pick a title that is alluring, try opening phrases such as “Discover”, or “Take Advantage” or anything else that seems to inspire people who want to learn something. Remember to use your main keyword in this title, as this will always help you rank better for your articles in the search engines. If you are having trouble trying to find an alluring title, remember that the best resource for alluring titles for Article Marketing is Amazon. Look in the e-books section, and have a look at the best sellers. Analyse their titles. Do not copy them, but use them to your advantage.

The Article Body

As far as the body itself goes, remember always to evenly spread out your keywords. Place your main keyword in the first 60 characters, and for the average 500 word article, try not to use your keyword more than 5 or 6 times. Ezine articles will always refuse submission if they keyword density is higher than 2%, not only that, but your article will more than likely come across as spam to the search engines, so be aware of this!

Remember with the article to be informative. Use a writing style that is not only appropriate for your market, but one that fits your persona. One that will attract people, and possibly even help convince them to sign up to your RSS feed, or click on your link in the author credit box.

Author Credit Box Optimization

On that note, when it comes to Article Marketing, one of the most important aspects is the author credit box. Remember, this is what will be the turning point for a reader, whether or not they visit your website. Not only that, but from an SEO stand point, this is where your backlink will live. I prefer to only use keywords in anchor text for my backlinks, this is a nice way to make backlinks look more natural to the search engines if you already have a lot of link based anchor text elsewhere. Also remember to write something compelling. Ask a question. Imply that maybe the answer to the question lies at your website. Be slightly persuasive, but don’t shout at people.

Ultimately, Article Marketing is something that you, as someone who is kicking off an SEO campaign, should be looking into a lot more. Think of the benefits. Backlinks. Persona. Trust building. Now let me ask you something. Why aren’t you marketing articles already?

All the best.

Anthony Robbins talks with Frank Kern and John Reese – An oldie but invaluable!

19 01 2010

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

A little while back, I sat through this brilliant piece by Anthony Robbins, tanking to Frank Kern and John Reese about a little problem that they are facing trying to sell a product. This is one of my first real exposures to the whole concept of “MindSet Conditioning”.

From an SEO standpoint, as much as this may not directly relate to SEO, this is an interesting watch. Just click the image to be taken to the video.

Social Media Marketing

18 01 2010

I cannot stress the impotrance of social media marketing enough. We all have a product that we are selling in some way, shape, or form whether it be CPM or CPC ads, maybe even affiliate ads. Along with being discoverable, having a persona that is inviting of your visitors attention is a large part of being able to sell online. People who are pre sold by you will buy, that is how human psychology works.

So, what are some key ways for social media marketing? You are looking at one method right now, although I am not trying to sell you anything via this blog, I just want to get some information out there for the time being. If you like this blog post, you may subscribe, or follow me on Twitter. These of course are all methods of social media marketing that not only allow people to discover the content that I write, but they also allow people to discover the content that I write no matter where they are.

I am still relatively new to Posterous, however this is a form of social media marketing that I believe that all SEO Experts and Internet Marketers should be embracing right now. If you follow me around the place, you may notice that when I post, alot of my other blogs and social networking platforms are instantly notified, resulting in an update or blog post. Some people like WordPress, some like TypePad, some just like to tweet lots, and these are all formats that are accesable via RSS or via mobile devices. So, essentially, the key is to post interesting content, and spread it out evenly so that people can easily find their way to your content.

I hope this made some sense to you! If you like this post, feel free to retweet it!

I love weekends!

17 01 2010

So, everyone has to take some time off, right? For one, I have been pushing myself pretty hard as of late, and to be honest, I don’t mind at all. I love what I do, and could even argue that what I do is as much a passion as playing guitar, or climbing mountains. You do need to take some time to breathe though!

So, as brief as this one is (it’s my day off today mind you! Haha), always remember to take some time off every now and again. Remember to spend time with those who are close to you, go do something nice, or whatever it is that you enjoy to do!

All the best,

Never halt your blogging efforts!!

15 01 2010
Ok, I am guilty of this and we all are. Blohhing is a platform that is associated with a purpose. I have been guilty of using the good old fashioned blogging platform for a content based theme site before, and each time I have failed. Reason being? Ok, let me take a minute or two to explain…

What is a blog? A blog is a website that has been created in a time sensitive format that is designed for people who not only want their posts accessed in real time, but are delivering material that is current for that particular space in time. This is elevated by the use of RSS and of course the Web 2.0 feature that allows user interaction in the way of comments.

A content based theme site on the other end of the scale is a sustainable site that doesnt need constant updating for the search engines to take notice of. It is a collection of information, that really informative part of the internet that you promote accordingly through link building programs and the such. Of course, RSS can come into play here as well, and can allow for rapid content distribution if done right.

So, having said that, I see alot of people on forums such as Digital Point who complain about how they are not getting enough traffic and they cant figure out why, and every time I look at these people,s websites, it is always the same story. Last posted a month ago, a ton of AdSense ads, and incorrect use of a blogging platform.

Here is a hint for you. Use the right platform, and if you decide to be a blogger, then be a blogger!

All the best,

Site Build It – It is official, I am a fan boy!

14 01 2010

Site Build It is not a website building application. It is a business building application. It is an application that makes sure that you dont have to have earned high grades in school in order to start a business. Site Build It is all that and more.

I used SBI to create my website, SEO Software Advisor, and since then I have been in deep development of a new site concept. You see, the vast majority of webmasters dont fully understand that there is a large difference between creating a website and starting a business. I will post more soon when I start getting more hands on with this new site concept so that you can see for yourself first hand what Site Build It does.
