Adding social media to your website can boost your site authority. It’s true, as much as we are all well accustomed to using social media, at times we can easily forget that what we are looking at is in fact social media, incorporating Web 2.0 elements into a website.

Let’s take blogging for example. Blogging is a platform that is specifically designed for those who want to deliver time sensitive information to those who desire it. Through user comments, questions can be asked of the writer, and questions can be answered by the writer as well. This encourages further interaction between visitors, which as my last post on creating a persona described, this acts as a method of developing a great online persona.

Is Blogging The Correct Platform?

Although, I do need to stress that in a lot of cases, blogging is not the appropriate format for a website. As much as a lot of people boast about how good certain platforms such as WordPress can be as a content management system for a theme based content site, blogs only ever receive love from the search engines when they regularly update themselves. This can be a bit of a tricky situation to deal with from time to time.

Undoubtedly, the juiciest part of the internet is that low bandwidth area that is focused on information, and information alone. Certain applications such as SBI! allow for social media elements to be placed on site, such as their Content 2.0 system which allows for users to add their own content. This can also be portrayed as guest blogging on a standard blog, or a guest feedback system on a content based theme site. The bottom line is that there is a strong advantage to adding some kind of social media to your website.

What Is The Advantage Of Using Social Media On My Website?

The advantage itself is not overly clear to some, but you will probably fall over backwards when you realize it, so here goes. When you create a website, you generally choose keywords that:

-Fit into your site concept

-Are winnable in the search engines

-Are buying phrases (if you are selling a product or service)

-Are keywords that your customer/visitor will be searching for

Of course, it is extremely hard to be 100% on top of things at all times, we can never know exactly what is going on in the head of our potential visitors, we can only go on what we assume through research, and development. We can never really know what the visitor wants unless we ask them that very question. Through adding a social media element that allows the user to actively interact and submit their own content, whether it be commenting, adding feedback, or guest blogging, we would not only be building trust with those users, we would also be leaving ourselves open for discovering new keywords that we can rank well for. Pretty amazing thought? I thought you would like that!

How Can I Use Web 2.0 Elements On My Website Or Blog?

Either way, there are plenty of ways that you can implement social media elements into a website. On one hand, you have blogging, and many platforms allow for contributors to be set up. For a website, as I said, you have SBI! which allows for the Content 2.0 plugin, and on the other hand, you have undeveloped systems as well which I am sure will play a huge part in this, such as Google Wave. This is very much a “watch this space” kind of thing, but in a nutshell, if there is any worthwhile kind of web 2.0 element that encourages user interaction and engagement, give it a bit of thought.
